How To Prepare For Your Appointment
The idea of acupuncture can be intimidating to a number of people, but the truth is, this simple act of placing thin, specialized needles into the top layer of skin to relieve bodily ailments and improve blood circulation is nothing to be afraid of.
With the proper preparation, you can feel confident before stepping into your acupuncture appointment to get the best treatment experience your body and mind deserve.
Hydrate! Because acupuncture treatment helps to release toxins by targeting trigger points for release, you’ll want to make sure there is enough water in your body to flush them out. In general, you should drink one to one and half ounces of water per pound of body weight.
Wear comfortable clothing. Once you step into your acupuncturist’s office, you’ll need to change from your day clothes into a gown, but if you prefer, you can wear your own clothes. With that said, you’ll need to lay still for at least 30 minutes, so it’s better to wear clothing that does not have bulky buttons or uncomfortable adornments on the front.
Avoid lotions and creams. During your treatment, thin needles will be placed onto the thin outer layer of skin, so having a clean surface without lotion residue will be better for your treatment. Sometimes, your practitioner may use specialized oils to aid in your recovery, but it’s better to leave the medicinal topicals to the experts here!
